Let’s look at each one:

HEPA FILTRATION. Theoretically removes at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns. But it traps but does not kill pathogens. COVID-19 (SARS CoV2) are approximately 0.1 Micron in size and are not trapped. A true HEPA filter cannot be simply added to an existing HVAC system for more effective cleaning.

UV LIGHT. Approximately 1 meter away from a UV light, the drop off in efficacy is exponential. Buildup of “bio-burden” (particulates) on the bulb decreases efficacy and much air never contacts the bulb output. Bulbs need to be changed regularly to make up for efficiency. UV light does not kill everything on the first pass - without bulb contact they remain viable.

BIPOLAR IONIZATION. Plasma particles are created by the ionization of molecules which are unstable. Air in your ductwork has a significant amount of Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Carbon Dioxide could generate a significant amount of Ozone which is toxic to humans. Bipolar lonization takes 20 times longer than the S4 system to cover a space, but with unknown effectiveness.

PORTABLE HEPA, UV, FOGGERS, IONIZERS. Portable devices are limited in area coverage, take up floor space, require individual unit maintenance and since one is required per room, are costly in buildings with multiple rooms. Fogging units utilize chemical solutions unacceptable to humans. Added to the inconvenience are the limits of each technology as noted above.

BUILDING INDOOR AIR FLUSHING. This experimental technique is not feasible since replacement air intake will only increase the amount of humidity in the building and raise the temperature of the building during the summer months. It will also provide a situation where any viable fungi achieve maximum ability to replicate.
